Awards
Strassenburg’s manufacturing facility is WHO-GMP certified, and also houses a DSIR-approved R&D facility. We received the Economic Times Award for ‘Best Financial Performance’ in West Bengal, 2015.
Deepnath Roy Chowdhury founded Strassenburg in 1985, in the city of Calcutta. Under his guidance, we have been able to establish ourselves as a pharmaceutical house that truly puts ethics first. From beginning as a niche manufacturer of oral solid and liquid formulations in eastern India to being a national leader in the GI and surgery segments – ours has been a story of perseverance and sustainable growth.
By always putting process before results, ‘the Strassenburg way’ serves as a North Star to all members of the organization, our partners, and finally our customers. Strassenburg’s first customers are it’s employees – our ‘people first’ approach has been one of the key differentiating factors in a highly-competitive environment.
This mentality is a key cultural contribution of our founder. Our commitment to research, innovation, and affordability can also be traced back to Mr. Roy Chowdhury’s vision and conviction in these ideals.
Aside from Strassenburg, Deepnath Roy Chowdhury has also held leadership positions in the Indian Drug Manufacturers Association (IDMA) – including but not limited to acting as the body’s National President between 2017-2019. He continues to serve the Indian pharmaceutical industry as a veteran today, prioritizing the growth of the entire sector collectively.
Our History
1980s
Strassenburg Pharmaceuticals was incorporated in 1985 in Kolkata, India with the clear vision of providing affordable, quality medicines to Indian citizens.
1990s
Strassenburg was the first to introduce Sucralfate to the Indian Medical Fraternity for the treatment of Peptic Ulcer Diseases with the introduction of its brand Sucral.
For faster relief from painful gastritis, Sucral was fortified with the local anaesthetic Oxetacaine and Sucral O was introduced.
Today treatment of Gastric Erosion & ulcers remains incomplete without Sucral & Sucral-O.
Sucral and Sucral-O have saved millions of critically ill patients admitted to CCU.
2000s
The innovative idea of topical sucralfate therapy, in the form of Sucral cream, for the treatment of burns was first presented to the medical community worldwide by Strassenburg.
2010s
Sucral ANO was the first specific therapy for Anal Fissure to be introduced in India. Sucral ANO heralded a new segment – topical non-steroidal-anorectal in anorectal therapy.
Sucral MU Ointment is a Value-added Mupirocin proven by clinical trials.
2020s
In collaboration with Palani LLC, USA, ErasaVir nasal and mouth sprays were introduced in India to combat the menace of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Post COVID, ErasaVir is being promoted for respiratory well-being.
